SPEARGUNS
Spearguns are the most practical and sharp end of spearfishing. Most of them are rubber powered and come in many different lengths, styles, types and brands. Some have aluminum or carbon barrels with or without rails (shaft guide) built in. All spearguns have different hand pieces and mechanisms with closed and open muzzles. Shafts can be high tensile steel or stainless steel with flopper, pranger or slip tip ends. Spearguns can have reels fitted and different thickness rubbers which are more or less powerful. Most of these features will depend on what purpose you intend to use the speargun for. As a general good all round gun for NZ conditions the speargun will have a barrel length of 1.2 meters long. A couple of things you will find with the Pelaj range is quality well coated shafts and dyneema bridles fitted. Using Dyneema instead of solid or articulated stainless bridles has major benefits safety wise, when those solid or articulated bridles snap or break (this usually happens when loading) they can slice through your hand or finger to the bone. When dyneema breaks it will give you a light whip to the hand and is only a few cents to replace compared to the cost of a solid or articulated bridle. Most dyneema bridles last a whole season of spearfishing.
